Series: 25 Survival Skills That Will Help You One Day - Did You Know? (Part 2: When You're Trapped In A Desert)
Hello! Welcome to my blog.
Imagine: One day, you're trapped in a wide and harsh desert. No shade, no water, and your phone has no signal. What will you do?
Whether your answer is, in part 2 of the series: 25 Survival Skills That Will Help You One Day - Did You Know?, here are some simple yet handy survival tips if you're stuck in the middle of a dry desert. Don't waste time anymore, let's get into it!
1. Minimize movement during the day
If you're stuck in the desert, the first fundamental thing you have to do is try to move as little as possible during the day. You need to sit in one place until night, because you'll need less energy to walk. If possible, use any available protection to shield yourself from scorching sunlight.
2. Water is everything
Without water, you can only live for 2-3 days. You should:
- Follow dry streams (if any) as they usually lead to water sources.
- Cover up to reduce sweating.
- If you have food but don't have water, then don't eat it, because your body uses the hydration process to digest food. So, don't be shy about being a little hungry!
💡Small tips: If you don't have water, put a small pebble in your mouth!
3. How to move safely?
👉Travel only early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the weather is cooler.
👉Observe: tire tracks, flying birds, and insects because these usually lead us to places that have humans.
4. Call the emergency services effectively
Try to call the emergency services as soon as possible, because you don't know how long you can suffer from the harsh conditions of the desert! To do that, you can do these things:
- Write a big letter of SOS on the surface of the sand.
- If you have a mirror or a phone, reflect sunlight to attract attention from helicopters (if any).
5. Don't do these things!
❌Don't eat the cacti - you can be poisoned or have diarrhea.
❌No running! You will get dehydrated pretty quickly.
Conclusion
The desert is harsh, but survival is possible.
Stay calm, protect your water, avoid the sun, and move smart.
Sometimes, the simplest choices can make the biggest difference.
